Like most things in life, everything in moderation. Having a drink after laser eye surgery is not going to have any effect on your results. However, we recommend that you don’t drink immediately after laser surgery. You will have taken a sedative before the surgery, which can interact with alcohol. You’ll be very relaxed already, and I suspect you won’t need any alcohol. The next day, after LASIK surgery, once the sedative has worn off, it’s absolutely fine to have a normal amount of alcohol. If you’ve had a surface laser procedure or PRK, your eyes will be uncomfortable for the first two to three days after treatment. In this case, we would recommend not drinking alcohol until your vision has recovered three to four days after treatment.
