Can you have SmartSight with astigmatism?
Hi, it’s Dr. Russell from VSON. When I tell people I’m a LASIK surgeon, some ask me: “Can I have SmartSight with astigmatism?”.
In short, the answer is yes, but let me explain in a little more detail.
Generally, we can only use the SmartSight laser treatment for nearsighted patients with short-sightedness -0.5 to -10.0 diopters, and astigmatism up to -5.0 diopters.
If you don’t meet these criteria, we can often achieve the same results with a Femto-LASIK operation.
With the “keyhole method”, we no longer create a corneal flap. Instead, we perform the procedure through a tiny incision in the cornea. This means we interfere as little as possible with the cornea, and the healing process is very short.
