WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER EACH PROCEDURE

Day of Surgery

  • You can see clearly without glasses and contact lenses (yes, it’s that quick!) Most people, throughout their laser eye surgery recovery, report that their vision is clear but feels like they’re looking through a wet, transparent shower curtain.

Day after Surgery

  • Vision continues to improve overnight and by the day after laser eye surgery, you should have close to the same vision that you previously only had with glasses and contact lenses, or better.
  • 24 hours after SmartSight surgery you can get back to driving.
  • You will be able to go back and resume work within 48 hours of your treatments, as well as use smartphones, TVs tablets or computers again! You may even want to start exercising right away too. Without the hassle of glasses steaming up or falling off, your workouts just got a whole lot easier!

Day 7 Post op

  • Some patients might notice increased light sensitivity, glare, halos around bright lights or double vision at night.
  • Imagine being able to watch movies without having to fumble around for your glasses. Well within a week of your laser eye surgery recovery, you can do just that! You’ll be able to enjoy a true movie theatre experience with all the benefits of clearer vision.

Day 30 Post op

  • Some patients may still experience dryness.
  • Some patients may still experience halos and glare at night.

Day 90 Post op

  • You may still need to use your lubricating drops, especially if you regularly use a computer or continue to experience dryness.
  • Say goodbye to glasses or contacts while on holiday. Whether you prefer a cold climate or enjoy spending time at the beach, you will have the freedom to enjoy your holiday without worrying about losing your glasses or damaging your contacts.

1 Year Post op

You should:

  • Be able to take advantage of clear vision, free from glasses or contact lenses.
  • Be able to go about your daily life without the inconvenience of corrective eyewear.
  • Be able to notice how much more enjoyable work and leisure are without glasses or contacts.
  • Have the confidence to engage in a wide variety of contact sports or physically demanding occupations.
  • Be able to enjoy the freedom to live life to the fullest.

Immediate after Surgery

  • You can see clearly without glasses and contact lenses (yes, it’s that quick!) Most people report that their vision is clear, but feels like they’re looking through a wet, transparent shower curtain.
  • Avoid rubbing your eyes.
  • Keep your eyes closed for the evening after your surgery. We recommend you take your sleep medication and have a good sleep wearing your supplied eye shields.
  • In the hours following their procedure, some patients report minor discomfort e.g a mild burning/ itching sensation. This is a sign that the healing process has begun and these symptoms will go away in time!
  • Most patients experience intermittent blurry vision and haziness immediately after surgery.

Day after Surgery

  • You’ll be able to resume most of your normal activities the next day! After LASIK, most people’s vision improves dramatically. You will be able to drive again and read without glasses or contact lenses; you’ll even be ready for that long work meeting later in the day.

Day 7 Post Op

  • You can resume light exercise the next day
  • Go for a walk and experience the beautiful nature without relying on your glasses!
  • Finally join a hot yoga class without worrying about your glasses falling off or steaming up!
  • You may still have minor difficulty seeing clearly at night after surgery.

Day 30 Post Op

  • One month after LASIK, you can participate in sports like running and football without having to worry about sweat getting into your contacts. You’ll be able to see clearly enough during workouts with no glasses falling down or lenses steaming up because of an intense workout!
  • No more worrying about whether or not your contacts will survive a swim! You can enjoy the pool without having to wear corrective goggles! You could even open your eyes underwater.

Day 90 Post Op

  • From day 90 onwards some patients may still need to use your lubricating drops. Don’t worry, this is completely normal for some.
  • At your 3-month check-up appointment, the clinical staff will check to ensure that your eyes are healing nicely and that you’re happy with your new vision.
  • You won’t have to worry about wearing glasses when you go on holiday after LASIK. For those who prefer a colder climate, you will no longer experience the hassle of wearing glasses under your ski mask. And for those who enjoy the beach, you will be able to scuba dive and surf freely without worrying about the salt water on your contacts!

1 Year Post Op

  • Have the freedom from glasses and contact lenses that you’ve always wanted.

Day of Surgery

  • To relieve any concerns about whether your laser eye surgery recovery time is smooth and effective, you’ll be pleased to know we’ve treated thousands of happy Queenslanders who’ve had excellent results.
  • Firstly, after your laser eye surgery procedure, we position a bandage contact lens over the eye to help the cornea heal and to reduce post-operative discomfort.
  • Immediately after laser eye surgery, it’s normal for patients to experience night glare or halos around lights.

Day after Surgery

  • It is a normal part of laser eye surgery recovery to experience some grittiness, sensitivity to light and eye-watering for the first 72 hours of your recovery time.
  • Please keep your eyes closed until tomorrow where you can open your eyes intermittently.
  • Please do not perform any visual demanding tasks

Day 5 Post Op

  • You’ll have about 80% of the clarity of vision you’ll enjoy long-term.
  • You’ll be able to see the time as soon as you wake up without reaching for your glasses!
  • You will be able to bath or shower with clear vision without your glasses steaming up!
  • Your vision should be good enough to resume work, driving, and the rest of your normal activities.

Day 30 Post Op

  • Some patients may still experience halos and glares at night.
  • Gym visits just got a whole lot more enjoyable! No longer will you have to worry about your glasses falling off or steaming up.
  • PRK laser eye surgery will let you enjoy spicy food without having to worry about when it is safe enough for your post-surgery contact lenses.
  • Laser eye surgery will turn your life into a true movie theatre experience. You’ll be able to enjoy 3D movies at the cinema without glasses and see things clearly like never before!

Day 90 Post Op

  • Some patients may still experience some dry eye.
  • At your 3-month check-up appointment, the clinical staff will check to see how your laser eye surgery recovery is going. They will examine if you’re eyes are healing nicely.
  • No more worries when it comes to swimming with contact lenses! You’ll be able to dive in and enjoy a swim at the pool or beach without worrying about your eyes.

1 Year Post Op

Day of Surgery

  • After your procedure we advise returning home and taking your sleep medication. This will ensure a great result the next day and a smooth laser eye surgery recovery.
  • In the hours following their procedure, some patients report minor discomfort e.g a mild burning/ itching sensation. This is a sign that the healing process has begun and these symptoms will go away in time!
  • Some patients may experience intermittent blurry vision and haziness immediately after surgery.

Day after Surgery

  • The morning after LASIK blended surgery, your vision will likely improve dramatically
  • Get back to living life and doing the things you enjoy like driving, reading and watching TV within 24 hours! This time without having to reach for your glasses!

Day 7 Post op

  • You can resume light exercise within three days.
  • You will be able to see clearly the moment you wake up.
  • No more struggling to put on your glasses first thing in the morning.
  • Enjoy a relaxing bath or shower without worrying about your vision.
  • Feel confident going about your day knowing you have clear vision.

Day 30 Post op

  • Your near and distance vision will continue to blend as your neurological system adapts to your eyes seeing slightly differently from each other.
  • You will experience improved vision for activities during the day and night.

Day 90 Post op

  • Your laser eye surgery recovery is practically complete.
  • Enjoy sports and activities without having to worry about contact lenses and corrective goggles.

1 Year Post op

After LASIK blended vision and lens replacement you should be able to:

Day of Surgery

  • Trans PRK surgery only takes between 10-15 minutes and then your life is changed forever!
  • Most people experience clear vision immediately after the procedure but it is normal for this to fluctuate in the first couple of days during your laser eye surgery recovery.

Day after Surgery

  • It is normal to experience some grittiness, light sensitivity and eye-watering for the first 24 hours.
  • Please keep your eyes closed until tomorrow morning where you can open them intermittently.
  • You will need to wear sunglasses on bright days for the first 3 months post-surgery.
  • Avoid rubbing your eyes.

Day 4 Post op

  • The majority of vision correction happens within the first 2 weeks.
  • You may have difficulty seeing at night after surgery, which usually lasts a few days to a few weeks.
  • You might notice increased light sensitivity, glare, halos around bright lights or double vision at night.
  • You’ll be able to see the time as soon as you wake up without reaching for your glasses!
  • You will be able to bath or shower with clear vision without your glasses steaming up!
  • Your vision should be good enough to resume work, driving, and the rest of your normal activities.

Day 30 Post op

  • Some patients may still experience the effects of dryness
  • Your vision may still be fluctuating.
  • You may still wake up with a slight dried discharge in the corner of your eye or lashes.
  • You can participate in sports like running and football without having to worry about sweat getting into your contacts. You’ll be able to see clearly enough during workouts with no glasses falling down or lenses steaming up because of an intense workout!
  • No more worrying about whether or not your contacts will survive a swim! You can enjoy the pool without having to wear corrective goggles! You could even open your eyes underwater.

Day 90 Post op

Day of Surgery

  • We provide twilight sedation, which means that you are breathing for yourself, but you won’t be conscious of anything happening.
  • There is absolutely no pain because of the sedation and because of the anaesthetic that we use during surgery.

Day after Surgery

  • Your vision improves drastically in just 24 hours.
  • The recovery from ICL surgery is brief, and most patients can resume work and their normal activities as soon as the day after surgery.

Day 7 Post op

  • You won’t have to worry about the annoyance of glasses until you need readers. Whether it’s finding a cycling helmet that fits your glasses to avoiding certain hobbies, you will have a whole new world of opportunities
  • You won’t be able to see or feel the lenses. You’ll only notice your vision is clearer and sharper.

Day 30 Post op

  • Your eyes may still experience the effects of dry eyes – please use your lubricating drops more frequently than in the schedule to counteract this.
  • You won’t have to worry about the maintenance and hassle of taking your contacts out and putting them back in.
  • Wearing glasses can make getting ready for a night out on the town more difficult, but not anymore! You can even experiment with new makeup styles that won’t be hidden under your glasses.

Day 90 Post op

  • You’ll enjoy great night vision.
  • You will be able to see as clearly as you did while wearing contacts or glasses (or even more clearly).

1 Year Post op

  • You can enjoy the peace of mind that you can reverse the procedure if you change your mind.
  • Have the confidence to engage in a wide variety of contact sports or physically demanding occupations.
  • Be able to enjoy the freedom to live life to the fullest.

Day of Surgery

  • After the surgery you will experience immediate vision improvement with no discomfort due to use of numbing eye drops.

Day after Surgery

  • You will need medicated eye drops after lens replacement.
  • You will notice some halos and glare around lights at night in the first 24 hours.

Day 7 Post op

  • Typically, you can start driving after 2 days.
  • Most patients can read comfortably 5- 7 days post surgery.
  • If you have a multifocal IOL, your distance vision will be vastly improved within a couple of days. Your near vision should improve after a week.
  • You will be able to exercise one week after surgery
  • You may have side effects like blurry vision, halos, and glare around lights at night for a few weeks.
  • Your vision may still fluctuate due to dryness.
  • Start wearing eye makeup again.
  • Read the newspaper and books without searching for your glasses!

Day 30 Post op

  • No more worrying about where your glasses and contacts are.
  • Gain back peripheral vision that you may have lost due to wearing glasses.
  • Gain your freedom back without having to rely on visual aids.

Day 90 Post op

  • Halos and glare around lights at night should have diminished.
  • The freedom that comes with swimming or cycling without having to worry about which pair of glasses you wear is something you won’t be able to deny.

1 Year Post op

  • You should have a high level of independence from glasses and contact lenses for a wide range of activities depending on the implants you choose with your surgery. This can include freedom from glasses and contacts for distance, midrange and reading.
  • If you do need glasses, it will likely only be for specifically visually-demanding tasks.
  • You won’t need cataract surgery later in life to remove and replace a cloudy lens.

Day of Surgery

  • Vision will start to improve almost immediately.
  • Following cataract surgery, there’s a period of about 30 minutes for you to recover from the twilight sedation. The nurses will do a final check before you’re able to go home with a family member or friend. The whole process itself takes about two hours.
  • Once the surgery is complete, a clear shield is placed over the eye, which stays on for four hours post-surgery and reduces the risk of infection. We will ask you to commence the use of postoperative drops which consist of an antibiotic drop and two anti-inflammatory drops.

Day after Surgery

  • You will be able to see relatively clearly, and your vision will continue to improve over the next three to five days after the surgery.
  • Most patients recover sufficient vision and can return to driving within 24 to 48 hours after surgery.
  • Within 24-48 hours you’ll be able to get back doing the things you love like driving alone or watching your favourite television program.

Day 7 Post op

  • Your eyes may be sensitive to light for a few days after surgery, but this is normal. You will need to use special medicated eye drops and wear your protective shield while sleeping or napping during the first week of recovery.
  • Eye redness and blurred vision are also common.
  • Once the vision improves over that first week, most people are at a point that they’ve got good, clear vision.Rediscover your favourite books.

Day 30 Post op

  • Your eyes may still experience the effects of dryness – please use your lubricating drops more frequently than in the schedule to counteract this.
  • It may take four to six weeks before your vision has settled to where it will be long-term.
  • Never worry about budgeting in case you break your glasses.
  • Never experience dry eyes from contact lenses.

Day 90 Post op

  • You will be able to view the world without obstructions.
  • There will be no limits to travelling, whether it’s skiing or snorkelling- you no longer have to wear special goggles.

1 Year Post op

  • You will experience the freedom to go anywhere, do anything!
  • Get a new lease of life with fresh eyes and rediscover old hobbies you may have abandoned due to your ailing eyesight.
  • Be able to notice how much more enjoyable work and leisure are without glasses or contacts.
