LASIK improves the focusing power of the eye to treat short-sightedness, long-sightedness and astigmatism long term.

During the laser procedure, the surgeon guides a laser to reshape the cornea. This improves the way light travels through the front of your eye and focuses on the retina. The result is clearer, crisper vision — without corrective eyewear.

We can perform this treatment on an outpatient basis.

We will completely numb your eyes with anaesthetic drops, so you will not feel a thing. We can also give you a sedative medication to help you relax.

The entire procedure takes about 5 to 15 minutes, and the laser treatment itself lasts less than a minute. Surgery is over before you know it.

Step 1 – Creating the flap

The first step of treatment is to create flaps in the cornea that are thin and hinged. The femtosecond laser creates the flap and then it folds back to expose the deeper layers of the corneal tissue.

Step 2 – Reshaping the cornea

Next, an excimer laser sends precise pulses of light to remove tiny portions of corneal tissue, reshaping its curvature. Once the cornea is reshaped, we put the corneal flap back in place over the eye, allowing it to heal on its own.

OHSU Casey Eye Institute, a leader in ophthalmic care and research, recently compared the chance of complications from contact lenses with the risks of vision correction surgery.
