Should you feel scared about implantable contact lens surgery?

Dr. Matthew Russell explains why you shouldn’t be scared of implantable contact lens (ICL) surgery.

Most people who are considering having ICL surgery are scared and concerned about the possibility of having surgery on their eyes. They may even feel more scared than people who are going to go through LASIK eye surgery.

ICL surgery is a very easy refractive surgery to have. The reason for that is, during the surgery, you are sedated. We provide twilight sedation, which means that you would be breathing for yourself, but you wouldn’t be conscious of anything happening.

The best way to find out if lens surgery is right for you is to have an in-person assessment. You’ll get a clear answer from our experts on your suitability and vision correction options

There is absolutely no pain because of the sedation, and because of the anaesthetic that we use during surgery. You will not be aware of anything happening, you will not see anything happening, and you won’t be able to hear or recall any of the procedure at all.

The recovery is often rapid and pretty seamless and smooth for most people. Find out if you are suitable for implantable contact lenses.
