How much does laser eye surgery cost in Brisbane?

If you’re thinking about laser eye surgery, one of the first questions that comes up is:
“How much is it going to cost?”

Here, we break down everything you need to know, from costs and what’s included to payment plans and insurance coverage. We also explain how laser eye surgery could actually save you money over time.

How much does laser eye surgery cost?

Laser eye surgery in Brisbane usually costs between $2,600 and $3,700 per eye.

The final price depends on the type of procedure that’s right for you (like LASIK, PRK, TransPRK or SmartSight) and what your treatment includes. Some clinics charge extra for things like scans, follow-ups or re-treatments, so it’s important to compare not just the number, but what’s included.

Why does the price vary?

The cost can change depending on:

  • Which procedure you need: Some procedures use more advanced technology or are better suited for certain eye conditions.
  • Your prescription and eye health: People with thinner corneas or high prescriptions might need a different approach.
  • The technology and surgeon’s experience: Clinics that use the latest laser systems and have highly experienced surgeons may charge more, but often offer better results and safety.
  • What’s included in the package:  Some places quote a low price, but then charge extra for follow-ups, drops or enhancements.

At our clinic, everything you need is included upfront so there are no hidden surprises.

What’s included in the price?

At VSON, your treatment cost includes everything from start to finish:

  • A full consultation and detailed eye scans
  • Your laser eye procedure
  • All post-op check-ups
  • Prescription eye drops and medications
  • A 10-year re-treatment guarantee so if your vision changes, we’ve got you covered.

We believe in transparent pricing so that you won’t be hit with unexpected charges later.

How much is each procedure?

Here’s a breakdown of costs by procedure. These are per eye and based on a 24-month interest-free payment plan:

Does private health insurance cover laser eye surgery?

In most cases, Medicare and private health insurance programs don’t cover laser eye surgery, because it’s seen as an elective (non-essential) procedure.

However, a small number of private health funds do offer rebates for laser eye surgery or vision correction. These vary between insurers and policies. You can view the list of insurance companies that we accept here.

  • If you’re eligible for a rebate:
  • We’ll give you a tax invoice
  • You can submit it directly to your health fund to make a claim

It’s best to contact your health fund in advance to check your coverage.

Is laser eye surgery worth the money?

Many people find that laser eye surgery pays for itself over time.

When you add up the cost of:

  • Glasses and frames
  • Prescription lenses
  • Contact lenses and solutions
  • Eye tests and fittings

…the ongoing expense adds up fast. Most patients find they break even in about 10 years and then continue saving for the rest of their lives.

Beyond the financial side, laser eye surgery also saves you time and hassle. No more fiddling with glasses, packing contacts when you travel, or dealing with foggy lenses when it rains.
