You can get back on the road in as early as 24-48 hours

If you need to drive for work or simply want to get back on the road, the good news is that you can drive soon after your lens replacement surgery.

You should, however, always take the direction your surgeon advises. Within 24 hours after your surgery, you’ll have your first follow-up appointment. Your surgeon will assess your vision to determine whether it’s safe to get behind a steering wheel. You must attend your post-surgery appointments. Your surgeon may say you should wait a little longer to drive after your lens replacement procedure.

This is why you must travel to and from your appointment with a friend or family member – this applies to most surgeries.

Try not to speed things up; take it easy

Be mindful that everyone heals differently. You may heal faster or slower than others, so it’s important to embrace the healing process properly. Avoid putting yourself under too much stress in the early days after surgery.

You should expect it to take up to a week for your vision to normalise completely after surgery. For some, it can take several weeks, but a week is when visual fluctuations usually dissipate. So, it’s worth bearing this in mind before you drive straight after surgery.
