When will I start to see refractive cataract surgery results?

Dr Matthew Russell explains when you will start to see refractive cataract surgery results

The results of refractive cataract surgery usually are apparent the next day. However, the vision is not likely to have reached its full potential. You will be able to see relatively clearly, and your vision will continue to improve over the next three to five days after the surgery.1Abdelghany, A.A. and Alio, J.L. (2014). Most patients recover sufficient vision and can return to driving within 24 to 48 hours after surgery. Once the vision improves over that first week, most people are at a point that they’ve got very good, clear vision.

You’ll know quite quickly that you’ve had a good response to treatment and that your vision has improved compared to the way it was before surgery. You’ll also have a very good idea of how you’re doing by the end of the first week. In some patients, it may take longer before they achieve their best possible vision. It may take four to six weeks before the final vision has settled to where it will be long-term.
