Lens replacement (also known as refractive lens surgery) is very similar to cataract surgery. The key difference is that the replacement lenses are clear, not cloudy.

Lens replacement surgery is an outpatient procedure that takes about 20 to 30 minutes per eye.7https://www.allaboutvision.com/visionsurgery/refractive-lens-exchange.htm Your eyes will be numbed and you can take medication to relax you.

Step 1 – Getting to the lens

Firstly, we create a tiny, self-sealing incision in the front of the eye, where the white of the eye meets the cornea.

Step 2 – Capsulotomy

Then, we create a circular opening in the membrane that covers the eye’s natural lens (called the lens capsule).

Step 3 – Phacoemulsification

Next, we break the lens into small pieces and remove the pieces from the eye. This is referred to as lens extraction.

Step 4 – Implanting the Intraocular Lens (IOL)

Finally, the lens implant is removed and replaced with an artificial lens in the capsule. We pre-select the lens based on your visual needs and goals. The new artificial intraocular lens will help you have better vision close up and better distance vision.

You will need medicated eye drops after eye lens replacement.

Everyone recovers differently, but you can expect a recovery time, resuming your everyday activities within a week of surgery.
