Firstly, let me explain what SmartSight is. SmartSight is a form of lenticule extraction. Lenticule extraction is regarded as the most cutting-edge laser eye surgery for the correction of short-sightedness, with or without astigmatism.

So, how does SmartSight work?

With SmartSight, a laser places a series of pulses within the cornea, forming bubbles less than 1/1000th the width of a human hair. These bubbles outline the tissue that needs removing and creates a tiny connecting tunnel through which we can extract it. Removing this tissue alters the shape of the cornea, correcting short-sightedness and astigmatism at the same time.

What are the Benefits of SmartSight?

Unlike other laser eye surgeries, with SmartSight we don’t create a corneal flap. This means the procedure is less invasive, so the eye is more comfortable and can heal quicker.

Is SmartSight more innovative than LASIK & TransPRK?

No, not necessarily. All three procedures achieve the same results. However, your cornea will be stronger with SmartSight as we don’t need to create a flap or remove any layers of your cornea, as is the case with LASIK and TransPRK.

There will likely be a place for LASIK and TransPRK for some time in the future because not everyone is suitable for SmartSight yet.
