The risks of putting in implantable contact lenses are very few.

Should you feel scared about implantable contact lens surgery? The answer is no.

There are small risks that the measurements that we make before surgery don’t reflect the dimensions of the internal structures of the eye and the contact lens may not be the correct fit for the eye.

The main implication for that is that the implant is safe in the short term. However, in the long term, the implanted ICL can stay in the eye, and in that instance, an eye surgeon needs to change it for a different sized contact lens.

As far as the risks of very serious complications, there are very rare risks of infection, which is less than 1 in 15,000 ICL procedures.3
